Web19. Juni 2012 · I've made grips of cedar, pine, fir, hickory, maple, green ash, and pear. They're all good. I've made about 40 wood grips. The finish I use is the same stuff I put on the rod shafts, a glossy two part epoxy. The grip is not slippery in the hand. If my hand gets a wet, it seems to hold the grip even better.
